Are Down Comforters Eco Friendly?

Yes. Down comforters are eco friendly, green products for the following reasons:1) Naturally Occurring - God made the goose, the duck, the feather, and down.

2) Renewable - Unlike other bedding materials like polyester, made from non-renewable fossil fuels, down can be regenerated every year to meet demand for the product.

3) Biodegradable - Along with the cotton cover, the entire down comforter can be added to a compost pile and return to dirt within months rather than decades.

4) Conserve Resources - They are a by product of the Asian food industry which raises millions of ducks and geese every year for the meat. If the down was not used in bedding and apparel, they would go into surface landfills.

5) Save Energy – Down is the best insulator known to man. A good down comforter will allow you to set your thermostat back at night while you sleep and save energy, money, and the environment.

Cost Savings Per Year

You can save a significant amount of money per year and help the environment, when you set your thermostat back at night. An average home saves about $90 / degree / 8 hour set back period. So the yearly savings would look like this:

1° F = $90
2° F = $180
3° F = $270
4° F = $360
5° F = $450

The energy and money savings are great. You can pay for your down comforter with only a few months of energy savings.
