What is a His/Hers Split Mattress?

A His/Hers split mattress has 2 firmness levels, a softer side for 1 partner and a firmner side for the other partner. The 2 different areas are separated down the middle of the bed from head to toe. The 2 sections are made as 1 piece, just like a normal mattress, but have different constructions, so that a couple can lie on the same bed and have it meet their individual preferences.

Foam beds, in sizes Queen, King, and Cal King, are the only ones that I know offering a His/Hers solution. Usually a memory foam mattress makes 1 side softer by adding a thicker memory foam layer at the top of the mattress and taking away some of the firmer base foam at the bottom of the mattress. Conversely, the firmer side uses less memory foam and more base foam.
