Do all king mattress sets come with a 2 piece box spring?
We live on the third floor of an apartment building and are concerned that a king size box spring will not be able to make it around the steps. Do all king size mattresses come in 2 pices or do some come in only one piece?
Hello,
Yes all king beds come with 2 box springs (or platforms). Each box spring is twin XL size, 38" x 80". Likewise a California King mattress will come with a 2 piece boxspring, each one measuring 36" x 80". King bed dimensions: 76" x 80" Cal King bed dimensions: 72" x 84"
The reason king and cal king box springs come in 2 pieces is that it's the only way to manipulate them through small hallways and around curves, into doorways, etc. Box springs are inflexible, making it difficult for them to maneuver. But because mattresses are flexible, they can bend to go around corners and in tight places. So king mattresses will fit where 1 piece king box springs could not go.
If you have a more difficult place to go, up a long flight of stairs, or in an attic, or through some small doorway, and cannot fit your box spring, a folding metal platform bed frame may be the solution for you. They fold into very small dimensions, 46×40x6", and are quite lightweight, about 30-40lbs. They are made for latex or memory foam mattresses, but can be used with any mattress meant to go over a firm, flat surface.
Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.
Kind Regards,
Will
