How to Create Spectacular Luxury Bedding Ensembles

Designing luxury bedding ensembles creates a sense of personal expression and can be an immensely satisfying experience. When done well, a bedding set will transform your bedroom into a sanctuary of rest. Using complimentary colors and patterns to coordinate with design pieces in the room cultivates a sense that things are complete and gives you the peaceful feeling that nothing is left undone. First you will start with the basic grouping to cover your mattress, box spring, and pillows. As a group, they are commonly referred to as a “comforter set”:

  • 1 Comforter – sometimes a duvet cover is used with down or polyester insert.
  • 1 Bed Skirt - also called a bed ruffle – covers the boxspring.
  • 2 Shams - Standard shams (20”x26”) go on a full or queen size bed. King shams (20”x36”) go on a king or cal king size bed. Some shams are stuffed, but usually you will need to purchase pillows separately.

A 4 piece sheet set is usually purchased with the comforter set. The sheets can have a design that matches the comforter, or be a coordinating solid color. A sheet set includes:

  • 1 Fitted Sheet
  • 1 Flat Sheet
  • 2 Pillow Cases

Next, use 2 Euro pillows on a queen or full bed, and 3 on a king bed. This gives the head of your bed a nice full look.

  • 2 or 3 Euro Pillows (26”x26”) – Some Euro pillows are stuffed, but sometimes you will need to purchase the inserts separately.

You can add several accessories to finish the look:

  • 1 or 2 Throw Pillows - usually square
  • 1 or 2 Boudoir Pillows - usually rectangular
  • 1 Neck Roll - also called a bolster pillow
  • 1 Round Pillow
  • 1 Throw Blanket – usually 36” x 60”

Accessory pillows really complete the look, so be sure to add plenty. Many luxury bedding ensembles have matching curtains or fabric by the yard for making curtains. Remember to get all the pieces of your ensemble at one time because fashion luxury bedding styles are constantly being updated and discontinued with every new season or trend.

Because luxury bedding ensembles use sophisticated construction techniques and quality materials, your ensemble will last for years to come. So take time when selecting your set, and get the one you really like best.
