What Are Linens?
Linens - articles or garments made from linen or a similar cloth, such as cotton; bed sheets and tablecloths.
Linens originally referred strictly to fabrics made from the linen fibers of flax plants, including bedding, sheets, table cloths, napkins, bath towels, etc. Today, linens commonly refer to many household textiles made from a variety of fabrics, mainly cotton.
Linens are mankind’s oldest fabric, its use dating back to 5,000 BC in Mesopotamia and Egypt. Tapping into the rich agricultural resources of the fertile Nile Delta fields, Egyptians became the original experts at the creation of linen textiles.
Today, Eastern Europe produces 80% of the world's flax crop. France, China, Egypt, Holland and Belgium provide flax as well. Increasingly efficient production continues to make linens a popular household item. To date, luxury linen textiles are the fabric of choice, unrivaled in strength, durability, and fineness of weave.
