Luxury Bedding Encourages Healthy Sleep According to Survey

A survey done by the polling company™ inc. finds that Americans are spending more on luxury bedding and are getting longer sleep and better rest as a result. In particular, participants identified new and improved mattresses as the best investment to improve health and happiness. According to the survey, 84% of Americans noted at least one positive change in either the quantity or quality of their sleep. The top improvements claimed by participants include:

  • Feeling more rested (53 %)
  • Fewer aches and pains (47 %)
  • Easier time falling asleep (41 %)

More and more people are discovering indulgent comfort as they upgrade from their old beds to the new breed of luxury mattresses on the market today. 51% of Americans polled say they “love their mattress” because it is “comfortable” and provides a “good night’s sleep.” 71% of respondent who say they are “in love” with their new mattress purchased a new bed within the last year.

But mattresses are not the only part of an optimal sleep experience. There are several easy changes you can make to your bedroom to improve the quality of sleep you get. Your bedroom should be a sanctuary, a soothing space conducive to relaxation and indulgent comfort. While the mattress is the heart of your sleep sanctuary, your behavior and overall sleep surroundings are major contributors to quality sleep. Creating a sleep sanctuary doesn’t have to be difficult or costly. Here are some tips for creating the perfect sleep environment:

  • Keep noise to a minimum. Many people can sleep through noise, but quiet is much more conducive to good sleep.
  • Keep temperature cool. Most people sleep better when the air is cool and the bed is warm.
  • Provide soft lighting. When getting shut eye, dark is best. Before bed time, gentle lighting helps prepare your body for sleep.
  • Replace your old mattress and get one with outstanding support and comfort.
  • Reserve the bedroom for sleep and sex only. Move other activities like eating, working, or watching TV to other rooms.
  • Decorate with colors, patterns, and furniture that make you feel relaxed. Include photos and plants that give you comfort.
  • Make sleep a priority: have a regular bed time, exercise regularly (but not just before bed), and reduce intake of caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol (especially just before bed).
