Will a New Memory Foam Mattress Improve My Sleep?

Old MattressShopping for a new mattress is low on most people’s priority list, even when there is a desperate need for better sleep. We all average about 8 hours per night in bed, more time than we spend anywhere else, but when it comes time to replace our old mattress, we hesitate.

Mattresses are heavy to move, hard to find just the right one, and not the least expensive home purchase we get to make. But for whatever reasons we put off getting a new bed, sleeping on an old mattress is a very common cause of sleep loss and neck and back pain. In general we know that a comfortable and supportive mattress will improve sleep. However there are many body types and a wide variety of mattresses to choose from, and nobody can say that one mattress is right for everybody.

So there are a large variety of beds, but latex and memory foam mattresses stand out from the pack in terms of health benefits, including:

  • relief from pressure points
  • proper spinal alignment
  • increased blood circulation
  • no motion transfer
  • long periods of deep sleep

The greatest advantage of a foam bed, the thing that it does better than any other type of mattress, is pressure point relief; and most of its other health benefits stem from this core concept. Lying directly on a supple foam surface allows your heavier parts to protrude deep into the bed while your sensitive curves, like your neck and lower back, are still in contact with the mattress and receiving support. The result is an even application of pressure across the surface of your body and greatly reduced pressure points. Lower pressure points mean more comfort, better circulation, less tossing and turning, and longer periods of deep, motionless sleep.

Memory foam mattresses are the fastest growing item in the mattress industry, word of mouth has spread the word, and more people are discovering better sleep, relief from aches and pains, and renewed energy.
