Why is My Memory Foam Mattress Topper Flat as a Pancake? -Part 2
When you are around memory foam mattress toppers all the time like I am, the mystery of memory foam disappears and you can tell which one will help you get a good night’s sleep just by the way it feels. But many customers who I talk to on the phone are new to memory foam and have a difficult time learning how to find what they need.
If you are new to memory foam mattresses or toppers, the first thing that you want to understand is what they are supposed to do. Memory foam’s primary function as a bedding material is to reduce pressure points. A pressure point is an area of your body that receives a greater amount of pressure than other areas of your body. For example your hips and shoulders are the 2 most common pressure points.
Memory foam reduces pressure points by spreading pressure evenly across the surface of your entire body. When you lie down on a memory foam mattress or topper, the foam conforms to your body shape providing support to all parts of your body. Your hips and shoulders are allowed to sink down further into the bed while the curves under your neck and lower back (for example) come into contact with the foam, receiving support.
