Why is My Memory Foam Mattress Topper Flat as a Pancake? -Part 3

Latex or Memory Foam Mattress TopperNow you know what to look for in a good memory foam mattress topper. So let’s compare a good one, to one that compresses “flat as a pancake.”

Most toppers give proper support to a wide range of body types and weights, say from 120 lbs to 250lbs. But people of different weights will experience the same topper in different ways. A 250lb person will sink more deeply into a topper and it will feel softer to them than a 120lb person.

If you are using a topper that compresses fully when you lie on it, then the topper is not firm enough to support your body weight. The problem with some memory foam on the market today is that it really does not do a good job of supporting any normal adult body weights, even on the low end of the range. A memory foam topper that offers too little support allows your body to sink down to the layer beneath without providing enough firmness to create support.

The same thing can be true with a memory foam mattress. Some memory foam mattresses being sold in the market today that have a top layer of memory foam that is very soft to the touch, but does not offer enough support, allowing your body to press too firmly against the underlying layer of firm base foam. Pressing too firmly against this firm layer is uncomfortable and creates pressure points. So whether you are looking for a memory foam topper or mattress, understand that good memory foam can and should be soft to the touch and conform to your body, but offer enough resistance to give proper support to the more delicate areas of your body like the curve or your neck and lower back.

If you have purchased a topper that gives little support, and you want something better, then you might need a thicker topper, but more than likely you just need a firmer one that provides more resistance and support.
