Is all memory foam created equal?

Is most memory foam created equal and/or which memory foam mattress is best? Help!?

Hello, Memory Foam Mattress

That's a great question, and it's on a lot of people's mind. Many people call us with this question floating around in the back of their mind, but it never quite surfaces. With such a wide variety in pricing, from $300 all the way up to $5,000, you can assume that there is likewise a wide variety of quality in the market place.

How can the average shopper distinguish between low and high quality memory foam mattresses? To answer the first part of your question, NO, all memory foam / memory foam mattresses are not created equal. Higher density memory foam, around 4-5lbs / cubic foot, provides the best support and is more durable than less dense, 3lb memory foam.

From my experience, 3lb foam under-performs from the beginning and will wear out much more quickly. All 4-5lb density memory foam beds are not equal either. Some are too firm; their ILD rating is too high for most people's comfort. Some are too soft, allowing your hips and shoulders to sink too far into the mattress and bump against the firmer support foam layers. These beds claim a standard 12-15ILD, but they do not have proper foam support.

So you want a memory foam bed that is very soft to the touch so that it will conform perfectly to your body, but it should also give proper support to your hips and shoulders, not letting them sink too far into the mattress. A 4-way stretch cover is also a benefit to a memory foam mattress. It allows the memory foam to optimally contour to your shape. Non-strectching fabrics and poly fiber quilted tops will limit the ability of the foam to contour to your body.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Kind Regards,
