Where do we get the foam for our mattresses?
Customers often ask us, “Where does your foam come from?” Usually they’ve come to us after researching other online mattress stores and want to be sure that our mattresses don’t contain harmful chemicals like some mattresses manufactured overseas. Rest assured that we are very choosy about the foam we use in our products. We have been in the foam fabricating business for over 35 years and only use foam that is safe for you and your family.
The foams that we use in our mattresses have been tested and approved by CertiPUR-US®. CertiPUR-US® is a voluntary testing, analysis, and certification program developed by members of the global foam industry in response to an increase in substandard imported foams. CertiPUR-US® tests for durability, content, and indoor emissions. Home furnishings items, such as upholstered furniture and mattresses, that carry the CertiPUR-US® seal contain flexible polyurethane foam products that have been tested and certified by an independent laboratory to meet specific criteria for physical performance, indoor emissions and environmental stewardship.
CertiPUR-US® foams are…
- Emissions tested
- Content tested
- Low emission (VOCs) for indoor air quality
- Made without prohibited phthalates
- Made without ozone depleters (no CFCs)
- Made without mercury, lead or heavy metals
- Made without formaldehyde
- Made without methylene chloride
- Made without PBDEs
- Durability and performance tested
We aren’t experts on the chemical composition of foam, but, like you, we spend 1/3 of our lives at home in our beds. We rely on US foam manufacturers to produce a product that is durable and comfortable. We rely on CertiPUR-US® to ensure that foam is safe. Their knowledgeable staff of scientists, consumer advocates, and environmentalists has developed guidelines for manufacturers that help them make a quality product safe for use in our homes.
