How to Create Amazing Luxury Bedding Ensembles

Luxury bedding ensembles are made up of several coordinating pieces that go together to give a bed a finished look. The basic grouping consists of:
  • 1 Comforter – sometimes a duvet cover is used with polyester or down insert.
  • 1 Bed Skirt - also called a bed ruffle.
  • 2 Shams - Standard shams (20”x26”) go on a full or queen size bed. King shams (20”x36”) go on a king or cal king size bed. Some shams are stuffed, but sometimes you will need to purchase inserts separately.
These are the essential elements for covering your mattress, box spring, and pillows. As a group, they are commonly referred to as a “comforter set.” You can arrange the rest of the luxury bedding ensemble around these 4 core pieces, according to your personal tastes.

A 4 piece sheet set is usually purchased with the comforter set. The sheets can have a design that matches the comforter, or be a coordinating solid color. A sheet set includes:
  • 1 Fitted Sheet
  • 1 Flat Sheet
  • 2 Pillow Cases
After a sheet set, the most common addition to a comforter set is:
  • 2 or 3 Euro Pillows (26”x26) – Some Euro pillows are stuffed, but sometimes you will need to purchase the inserts separately.
Use 2 Euro pillows on a queen or full bed, and 3 on a king bed. This gives the head of your bed a nice full look. Once euro pillows have been added, it’s time to make the bed complete. There are several accessories that finish the look:
  • 1 or 2 Throw Pillows - usually square
  • 1 or 2 Boudoir Pillows - usually rectangular
  • 1 Neck Roll - also called a bolster pillow
  • 1 Round  Pillow
  • 1 Throw Blanket – usually 36” x 60”
Not all luxury bedding ensembles will include all the pieces listed above, but the main elements (4 piece sheet set and 4 piece comforter set) are usually available together. The euro pillows are especially important in giving the bed a full, luxurious look. If the style bedding you are looking at does not have the euro pillows, you may consider passing on the set if you want that big look. The accessories really complete the look, so don’t be shy with the pillows. You can always use one in the living room or a nearby chair if you want a change of pace, but the pillows may not be available if you want to add on later.

So create your luxury bedding ensembles all at one time. Use all the basic pieces listed above, pepper in a few accesories to accomplish a complete look, and your will have created and amazing look that you can be pleased with for many years to come.
