Will a memory foam mattress work on my innerspring bed?

Memory Foam Mattress Toppers Will Work on Most Innerspring Beds

MattressThere are 2 main reasons that older innerspring beds become uncomfortable.
  1. First, the top layer of foam or fiber that was originally very soft has become compressed, formed body images, and is no longer comfortable.
  2. Second, innerspring mattresses at some point will sag in the middle. When this happens you are always sliding into the middle, especially when you sleep with a partner. 
If your mattress is overly squishy and sags in the middle, then a memory foam mattress toppers won’t help. A topper on this kind of poor supporting bed will still only provide poor support.
 
However, if your bed is firm and does not sag in the middle, then a topper will provide you with a whole new sleeping experience.




What is the difference between these toppers?

4.5lb and 5.3lb Memory Foam Toppers

MeasureBoth the 4.5lb and 5.3lb toppers come in either a 2” or 3” thickness. A 2 inch topper will give most of the benefit of 3 inch topper, and will work fine in most cases. If you weigh over 200lbs, then you probably will want to upgrade to 3” for proper support. Also if the expense is not an issue for you, we recommend the 3” topper.
 
Our 4.5lb density topper has a firmness rating of 12ILD, making it a little softer than our 5.3lb 15ILD foam. Both densities are resilient and durable, made to perform optimally for many years.







Which memory foam topper has the firmness I'm looking for?

ILD = Firmness Rating

Indentation Load Deflection is the firmness rating of foam. 15ILD is medium firm and 12IlD is medium soft.

Do I need a waterproof protector or a mattress pad for my topper?

Mattress protectorA waterproof mattress protector is recommended for use over your topper to prevent the build up of debris in the open-cell structure of the foam and protect it from accidental spills that might ruin the foam.  Because foam has an open cell structure, it  absorbs debris easily, which cannot be removed with cleaning. The only way to keep your topper perfectly clean is to cover it with a mattress protector from the very beginning of use. A mattress protector has a thin, stretchable polyurethane backing that is breathable, but completely seals out dirt, debris, and moisture. Using a mattress protector with your topper will keep it clean for many years of use.
 
Cotton Mattress Pads and Snugfleece Wool Mattress Pads also do a very good job of keeping your memory foam topper clean. Simple cotton mattress pads will repel most dirt and prevent spills from absorbing into your memory foam pad if you clean it up quickly. Wool mattress pads block out dirt and debris and absorb liquid spills, but they also add an extra layer of unique comfort to a memory foam topper.
